I Pulled a Card for You
From my Sacred Muse deck: a woman, her story, and oh-so-much wisdom - all for you!
Today’s card: Rahab
Her story: Rahab was a sex worker who hid two spies in her home, lied to the authorities when they came looking for them, and then enabled their escape . . . but only after negotiating a guarantee of her safety and that of her family when they returned to raze the whole city.
It’s an impressive tale. She’s impressive. Somehow, in the midst of circumstances that might have found the best of us cowering in fear (understandably), she has the wherewithal to keep it together, to think on her feet, to speak up, to do some incredibly creative problem-solving, and to look far beyond the immediate pressure of the situation and stay focused on those she loved. Amazing.
I love that this story is told, that it exists, that it has survived. True, she’s hardly a household name, but she deserves to be honored. And we deserve all that she so boldly and generously offers.
