Today’s card: The Pharaoh’s Daughter
Her story: Like so many of these ancient, sacred stories I tell, hers usually gets lost in the midst of the men’s. In this one, particularly, Moses takes center stage—his dramatic rescue of the Israelites from the Pharaoh’s brutal enslavement, the parting of the Red Sea, the 10 Commandments. Yep: all that. But none of that would have been possible if the Pharaoh’s Daughter (yes, the same Pharaoh) hadn’t rescued him when he was a baby, floating down the river in a basket of reeds.
There’s so much I love about her story: the risks she took, the collaboration among women, the strength and courage she poured into her adopted son, the legacy she enabled. This is the story we’ve needed to hear as women at least alongside that of Moses, if not instead of. This is the story that both names and invites our risks, our relationships with other women, our strength and courage, the legacy we enable and are part of.
