Today’s card: Mary Magdalene
Her story: She, another Mary, and Eve are probably the best-known names—if not stories—of women in scripture. She (and Eve) are also the two most often and most harshly shamed and condemned. It’s sad. And so, so inaccurate and frustrating. In light of this, it becomes that much more important that we reimagine and retell their stories . . . so that we can heal our own. (I wrote about exactly this earlier this week.)
In truth, I’ve spent far more time with Eve than Mary Magdalene. And in complete transparency, I’ve relied heavily on others’ telling of her story—particularly Meggan Watterson’s in Mary Magdalene Revealed. Even the description of her book is worth reading:
